Why exact location makes such a difference

Motorway directions are not interchangeable. A recovery truck travelling northbound cannot always reach a vehicle on the opposite carriageway by simply crossing the road. It may need to continue to a junction, turn around and return. The same issue can occur at service areas with separate northbound and southbound sites. A vague description such as “I am at Harthill” can therefore produce a poor ETA, while a GPS pin and direction gives the dispatcher something much more useful.

GPS also helps when you have left the motorway. Customers sometimes say they are “at Junction 16” when the vehicle is actually on a roundabout, an A-road, a petrol station or a nearby industrial road. A precise pin lets the driver plan the final approach and reduces calls asking you to describe unfamiliar surroundings.

Why the drop-off postcode should be included immediately

The recovery destination is part of the job, not an afterthought. A tow to a garage five miles away and a long-distance transport to another city require different travel time and pricing. Sending the postcode at the start allows us to calculate the complete journey. If your preferred garage is closed, you can ask for recovery to your home or another appropriate location, or discuss alternative arrangements before dispatch.

For garages and dealerships, check opening times yourself where possible and make sure the destination can receive the vehicle. If the recovery is happening late at night, tell us whether there is a safe place to leave the vehicle and whether keys need to be handed to a particular person. Clear instructions protect both the customer and driver from avoidable confusion at drop-off.

Breaking down on a motorway is already inconvenient, so the recovery booking should not make it harder.
